Minor deviations in the structure of wood are allowed; partially intergrown and not intergrown knots, falling knots, knot holes, up to 3 wormholes per 1sq.m. no bigger than 6mm in diameter, up to 5 healthy intergrown knots per 1sq.m. no bigger than 15mm in diameter, and minor brown vein lines are also allowed. Such plywood can be varnished. B/B grade plywood is used for manufacturing laminated plywood.
In grade CP plywood, partially intergrown and non-intergrown knots, falling knots, knot holes, up to 10 wormholes per 1 sq. m. no bigger than 6mm in diameter are allowed; healthy intergrown knots are also allowed (unlimited quantity). It is used in building structures that are hidden from external view and for manufacture of containers and packaging.
In grade BB plywood, partially intergrown and non-intergrown knots, falling knots, knot holes, up to 6 wormholes per 1sq.m. no bigger than 6mm in diameter, up to 10 healthy intergrown knots per 1sq.m. no bigger than 25mm in diameter are also allowed; repair of sheet surface is allowed. Knots and open defects are sealed with veneer inserts. Such plywood is covered with various finishing materials and paints.
Any manufacturing flaws are allowed in Grade C plywood: partially intergrown and non-intergrown knots, falling knots, knot holes, unlimited quantity of wormholes with diameter up to 40mm. The only guarantee is the quality of gluing. It is used for manufacture of durable containers and packaging.
